Report of Natural Gas Leak in Corpus Christi Bay

CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS — (News Release) On Wednesday, May 29, the U.S. Coast Guard Command Center in Corpus Christi was alerted to a dry natural gas line leak in Corpus Christi Bay. The City of Corpus Christi received no notification of the pipeline leak.

The Coast Guard has established a safety zone around the Intracoastal Waterway near mile marker 546. This is located approximately 0.5 nautical miles south of Corpus Christi Bay Day Beacon 61 in the southern region of Corpus Christi Bay. Recreational boaters, commercial vessels, and marine industry partners are to avoid the area until further notice.

The cause of the leak is unknown, with no reportable quantity. The area of the pipeline was not enough to impact the City of Corpus Christi.

Coordinated efforts are underway for dive crews to repair the underwater leak, weather permitting. The safety zone will remain in effect until the issue is resolved.
