Protect People, Property and Pets During Freezing Conditions

COASTAL BEND, TEXAS (News Release) – The National Weather Service forecasts a strong Arctic cold front will move into the Coastal Bend area Sunday, resulting in below-freezing temperatures Monday and Tuesday night with cold wind chill values across the region through Wednesday morning.
Citizens should take all precautions to protect people, pets, and plants.
Please make sure your pets are given adequate shelter with a heat source and dry bedding and have access to fresh water and food. The City of Kingsville Health-Animal Control Department recommends bringing outdoor pets inside for this weather event.
When temperatures drop to around 20°F, the potential for frostbite and hypothermia increases significantly for your animals. Crews in Kingsville will be patrolling the city to remind citizens of pet safety and can impound animals left in harsh weather without adequate protection.
Kingsville and Kleberg County offices will be closed in observance of the Martin Luther King, Jr. Holiday Monday, but crews will be monitoring conditions. Garbage service is running an alternate schedule this week in observance of the holiday. Meals on Wheels crews will deliver additional meals in advance to limit cold weather exposure for crews and those in need.

Nueces Electric Cooperative/Electricity:
Nueces Electric Cooperative, Inc, control center and member care representatives will continue to be available 24/7, and members are encouraged to report any power outages through our phone lines at 1-800-NEC-WATT (1-800-632-9288). “NEC is now in emergency planning mode for a significant weather event,” CEO, Varzavand “Avan” Irani said. “Should this weather trend continue, we will suspend normal operations and activate storm emergency preparations.”
311 Call Center in Corpus Christi:
While most City offices in Corpus Christi will be closed Monday for the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday, the Corpus Christi Call Center will open from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Monday due to the freeze and resume regular hours of 7:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. beginning Tuesday. Call 311 for City services or questions.
Home Bound Meal Delivery in Corpus Christi:
The Home Delivered Meal Program will be closed on Tuesday, January 16. Today, Friday, January 12, 2024, seniors received shelf-stable meals for Monday and Tuesday, January 15 and 16. Corpus Christi City staff will continue to conduct welfare checks during the closure period.
