New Ordinance to Prohibit Crossing of Buoy Markers at Choke Canyon

CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS (News Release) – Corpus Christi City Council voted to adopt a new ordinance prohibiting the crossing of buoy markers at Choke Canyon Reservoir. The ordinance is intended to enhance public safety and protect critical dam infrastructure.

The new regulation falls under the Texas Parks and Wildlife Code, which authorizes incorporated cities and towns to designate restricted areas and establish rules necessary for public safety on lakes. The ordinance explicitly addresses the need to safeguard visitors and the Choke Canyon Reservoir dam infrastructure by prohibiting watercraft from crossing designated buoy markers placed by the City of Corpus Christi.

The Texas Parks and Wildlife Department is authorized to enforce this ordinance, which applies to all watercraft and vessels navigating the public waters of Choke Canyon Reservoir.

“The safety of our residents and protecting our vital water infrastructure at Choke Canyon Reservoir is a high priority,” said Mayor Paulette Guajardo. “These buoy markers will serve as boundaries to prevent accidents and protect our dam from potential damage caused by watercraft.”
