PREMONT, TEXAS (News Release) - Three City of Premont employees are being credited with saving a homeowner’s life and preventing significant property damage after spotting a house fire early Tuesday morning.

Rudy Balboa, Angel Silguero and Aron Silguero were working in the area of South Donald Street when they noticed smoke coming from a residence in the 400 block of Southeast Third Street.

The employees immediately went to the home and began pounding on doors and windows to alert anyone inside. The homeowner, who was asleep at the time, woke up and was able to unlock the door and escape through thick smoke and flames coming from the kitchen area.

After ensuring the homeowner was out safely, the workers notified dispatchers and took additional action to prevent the fire from spreading. They shut off the home’s electrical breaker and gas line before entering the residence. Using a garden hose connected to an outside water spigot, they began battling the flames and were able to contain the fire until further help arrived.

City officials said the employees’ quick thinking and decisive response likely saved the homeowner’s life and prevented the residence from being completely destroyed.

The cause of the fire has not been released.
