Police said night shift officers responded at approximately 5:56 a.m. to a call in the 200 block of East Joyce Street. Following an on-scene investigation, officers arrested Reynaldo H. Salazar Jr.

Salazar was charged with assault causing bodily injury to a family or household member by impeding breath or circulation, a felony offense, and resisting arrest, search or transport.

During the arrest, police said Salazar resisted officers’ lawful efforts to take him into custody. A department-issued Taser was deployed to gain compliance, consistent with department policy and training. Salazar was then restrained and transported to the Nueces County Jail.

Police emphasized that an arrest is not a conviction and that all individuals are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.

The Bishop Police Department said it takes family violence incidents seriously and responds in accordance with Texas law to protect victims, maintain public safety and ensure due process for all parties involved.
