Kingsville (News Release)  - Pack 140 cub scouts, chartered by St. Gertrude Catholic Church, spent some of their Saturday morning participating in the Texas General Land Office’s Adopt-a-Beach Program clean up.

The cub scouts and adult leaders met with other volunteers and staff at the Hubert Kaufer Memorial Park observation tower.  After receiving a safety briefing, Pack 140 donned safety gloves, sun screen, and mosquito spray and got to work pickup up trash from the beach.

There were plenty of the expected trash items like cigarette butts, fishing line and food wrappers.  The most unusual find that day was a purple Barbie doll shoe.

Arrow of Light Cub Scout, Jax Rocha said, “This is our beach.  Nobody wants a dirty beach. I’m glad we come out here to clean up.  I think more people should come help next time.”

The cub scouts received patches, a backpack, and coupons to Baffin Bay Seafood Company which helped sponsor the event.
