Cleanup Efforts Continue for Oil Spill in Corpus Christi Bay

CORPUS CHRISTI – Flint Hills Resources (FHR) continues responding to the release of light crude oil from a pipe failure at its Ingleside crude oil terminal on Christmas eve.
Days later, additional oil has been discovered in the Corpus Christi Marina area. The operation is limited to recovery and FHR does not anticipate this interfering with normal marina operations.
Booms have been deployed, and active monitoring continues in the following areas:
North Beach
Indian Point
Rookery Island on the west side of causeway
Diversionary boom on Northside of causeway
Dredge Material Placement Area (DMPA10)
Skimming operations continue in Corpus Christi Bay surrounding the ship channel.
Residents are encouraged to continue reporting any material or oil sheens observed in Corpus Christi Bay to local authorities.
Recent analysis determined the total volume of oil released is approximately 335 barrels of light crude oil. The revised estimate reflects results of additional analysis from the terminal’s operations and data control center.
Flint Hills Resources continues working with marine and wildlife experts. Five deceased birds have been recovered from the impacted area.
Local, state, and federal authorities, including the U.S. Coast Guard, the Texas General Land Office, along with the Port of Corpus Christi Authority, continue providing assistance.
