ARANSAS PASS (News Release) - The Mayor of Aransas Pass, Mayor Ramiro Gomez, has issued a Declaration of Local State of Disaster due to a Public Health Emergency for POSSIBLE CONTAMINATION of the City's potable water supply system.

This order includes areas in Nueces County served by the Aransas Pass water system.

The order includes the following restrictions:

  • No Use of Potable Water.

  • Potable water shall NOT be used for drinking, cooking, bathing, brushing teeth, or use for pets.

  • Water may be used for washing clothes and flushing toilets only.

Residents should be aware of the source of their water, and continue to monitor local media and the City of Aransas Pass website at: https://www.aptx.gov/

⁠The no use water order issued in Aransas Pass does not affect Corpus Christi Water Utility customers. At approximately 5:30 p.m. yesterday, the City of Aransas Pass issued a No Use Water Advisory required by the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality.

⁠Water supplied to Corpus Christi utility customers is safe for use.

⁠If customers have any water or wastewater utility issues and would like a certified field technician onsite to assist, please call the city’s after hours and weekend number 361-885-6913. Dispatch and field crews are available twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week.

CITY OF ARANSAS PASS ANNOUNCEMENT

DECLARATION OF LOCAL STATE OF DISASTER DUE TO A PUBLIC HEALTH EMERGENCY  FOR NO USE OF POTABLE WATER

WHEREAS, pursuant to Texas Government Code Section 418.108, Mayor Ramiro Gomez, hereby issues a Declaration of Local State of Disaster due to a Public Health Emergency for POSSIBLE CONTAMINATION of the City's potable water supply system; and

WHEREAS, a local Aransas Pass business may have had a chemical backflow into the City's water supply system; and

WHEREAS, the City Mayor has determined that extraordinary measures must be taken to alleviate the suffering of people and to protect the public health and safety; and

WHEREAS, the City and the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality ("TCEQ") are closely working together to resolve this public health emergency.

NOW THEREFORE, I, RAMIRO GOMEZ, MAYOR OF THE CITY OF ARANSAS PASS, TEXAS, PURSUANT TO THE AUTHORITY VESTED BY TEXAS GOVERNMENT CODE, CHAPTER 418, HEREBY PROCLAIM AND ORDER:

1. Effective immediately and continuing until further notice, unless extended, modified, amended, rescinded or superseded by the Mayor or the governing body of the City:

  • No Use of Potable Water.

  • Potable water shall NOT be used for drinking, cooking, bathing, brushing teeth, or use for pets.

  • Water may be used for washing clothes and flushing toilets only.

2. That the findings and recitations set out in the preamble to this ORDER are found to be true and correct and they are hereby adopted by the Mayor and made a part hereof for all purposes. 

3. Pursuant to §418.108(c) of the Texas Government Code, this declaration of a local state of disaster activates the City of Aransas Pass, Texas Emergency Management Plan.

4. This Proclamation and Order shall be given prompt and general publicity and shall be filed promptly with the City Secretary and shall take effect immediately from and after its issuance.

5. The City of Aransas Pass will post this Order on its website. If any subsection, sentence, clause, phrase, or work of this Order or any application of it to any person, structure, gathering, or circumstance is held to be invalid or unconstitutional by a decision of a court of competent jurisdiction, then such decision will not affect the validity of this Order and its application.
