New Collaboration Seeks to Enhance Child Development Outcomes
City of Corpus Christi
CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS (News Release) – Families in the Coastal Bend now have greater access to vital developmental screenings, thanks to a new collaboration between the Corpus Christi-Nueces County Public Health District, United Way of the Coastal Bend’s Success By 6 initiative, and Early Childhood Intervention (ECI). This partnership is dedicated to ensuring young children receive the support they need for healthy development through early detection, education, and connection to services.
This initiative is available at the Corpus Christi-Nueces County Public Health District building at 1702 Horne Road and provides free screenings for children to age 5.
These screenings evaluate a child's development in key areas such as motor skills, language, cognition, and social-emotional growth, helping to identify any developmental delays or disabilities. Additionally, the program will offer resources and support for families with young children. By joining forces, these organizations aim to promote developmental milestones, address concerns proactively, and connect families with suitable services.
Through this approach, families will have the opportunity to meet with experts from Success By 6 and ECI, who will be available on-site to conduct screenings, share educational materials, and provide direct referrals to support services. The goal is to eliminate barriers to access and ensure that all children in the community receive the best possible start in life.
“Ensuring the health and well-being of our children is one of the most important commitments we can make as a community,” said Mayor Paulette Guajardo. “By expanding access to developmental screenings, the Corpus Christi-Nueces County Public Health District is giving Coastal Bend families the critical resources they need to support their children’s growth and success.”
"Early detection is key. We want to ensure children receive the support they need to thrive as early as possible," said Dante Gonzalez, Interim Health Director for the Corpus Christi-Nueces County Public Health District. "With this partnership, it will be easier and more accessible for families to receive screenings, resources, and early intervention all under one roof."
This collaboration marks a proactive step toward improving child development outcomes in Corpus Christi and its surrounding areas. Parents and caregivers are encouraged to utilize this free service, enabling children to reach their full potential through early intervention and support.
The free screening, the Ages & Stages Questionnaire, is available online in English and Spanish at www.uwcb.org/sb6.
