City of Corpus Christi
CORPUS CHRISTI (News Release) – Corpus Christi City Council awarded a contract to DLF Texas General Contractors of Corpus Christi, Texas, for the construction of a new Aquatics Center for $10 million. The facility will be at Bill Witt Park, located on Yorktown Boulevard. The new facility is funded by the Bond 2022 program approved by voters in November 2022.
The new Bill Witt Aquatics Center will be located in District 5. The construction of this new City facility will include a 10-lane competition lap pool, an approximately 7,500 square-foot recreational pool with play features and a body slide, a patrons' facility building, a food truck service area, parking, seating areas, shade structures, and new landscaping.
Corpus Christi currently has six public swimming pools: West Guth (District 1), HEB (District 2), Collier (District 2), Greenwood (District 3), Natatorium (District 3), and Oso (District 4).
Construction on the new Aquatics Center is anticipated to begin in May 2023 and will take 13 months to complete.
"Today’s approval supports the City’s goal of providing the highest quality of life for our residents,” Mayor Guajardo said. “Building a new aquatics center at Bill Witt Park provides residents the chance to enjoy the health benefits of swimming and an opportunity for local youth to compete in year-round swim meets and competitions.”
