National Dockworkers Strike Suspended for Now

City of Corpus Christi

CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS — (News Release) The union representing striking U.S. dockworkers along the East Coast and the Texas Gulf Coast reached a deal Thursday to suspend a three-day strike until January 15 to provide time to negotiate a new contract.

While the Port of Corpus Christi was not included in the strike, the City of Corpus Christi’s Economic Development Department worked with partners across the area to determine how the strike could affect South Texas.

Those agencies include:

  • South Texas Economic Development Center

  • Port of Corpus Christi

  • Local Retailers

We thank our economic development partners for their invaluable assistance in monitoring and assessing the potential local impact of the dockworkers' strike, ensuring our community remains well-informed and prepared.
