NAS Kingsville Remembers Sept. 11, 2001 Terrorist Attacks

Naval Air Station Kingsville

NAS Kingsville fire fighters and other base personnel climbed the stairs of the unaccompanied housing building Monday in a memorial to those killed in the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks.

They needed 28 trips up the three-story staircase to replicate the 2,071 steps up the 110 floors of the World Trade Center towers – wearing fire fighter gear or weighted vests in the already hot morning.

A total of 2,996 people, including 343 New York City fire fighters as well as other first responders, died in the attacks on the twin towers, the Pentagon and in a crash in Pennsylvania when passengers attacked that aircraft’s hijackers.

The climb was one of hundreds done across the nation today.
