NAS Kingsville Welcomes USS Lexington Volunteers

KINGSVILLE, TEXAS (News Release) - Volunteers with the USS Lexington Museum in Corpus Christ visited NAS Kingsville on January 30.

They group had the opportunity to ‘fly’ the virtual reality simulator for the T-45C Goshawk, used to train student pilots, as well as get briefings on the aircraft by student pilots.

They also climbed the stairs of the aircraft control tower for a view of the entire airfield and an explanation of how controllers manage aircraft take-offs, landings and operations and was capped by a visit to the radar room.

A briefing on squadron operations was followed by a trip to the landing signals officer shack on the edge of a runway and an explanation of the light system that replicates the lights used to guide aircraft to a successful landing on board an aircraft carrier.
