GOLIAD, TEXAS - The Goliad County Emergency Management received confirmation of the source of the odor around Goliad County that extended to the Corpus Christi area.

At approximately 1 pm on Thursday, January 4, 2024, a large spill containing an unknown amount of crude oil mixed with Deisel and H2S (Hydrogen sulfide) has been spilled in the Port of Victoria. Hydrogen sulfide is a colorless gas, and is known to be poisonous, corrosive, flammable, and having a foul odor of rotten eggs.

The Texas Commission on Environmental Quality is handling the situation.

Last night, The Goliad County Emergency Management advised a “Shelter in Place” in Goliad County until further notice.
