CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS - Cooperation between local, county, and federal emergency responders helped contain a residential fire and save multiple pets Wednesday at a home in the 2200 block of Sussex Drive.

According to Nueces County Emergency Services District No. 2, firefighters responded to the blaze with support from Naval Air Station Corpus Christi Fire and Emergency Services and the Corpus Christi Fire Department as part of a coordinated mutual aid response.

The fire caused significant damage to the interior of the residence. However, through the combined efforts of responding crews, firefighters were able to rescue multiple pets from the home and provide them with immediate medical attention.

Officials highlighted the importance of mutual aid partnerships that allow agencies to share resources, train together, and respond side-by-side during emergencies.

"This incident demonstrates the strength of teamwork among local, county, and federal agencies," ESD 2 officials said on a social media posting.

Naval Air Station Corpus Christi also stated, "Whether sharing resources, conducting joint training, or responding together to protect our communities, we are always stronger when we work as one team."

Nueces County ESD 2 expressed gratitude to all first responders involved in the operation, recognizing the dedication and professionalism of the firefighters and emergency personnel who worked together to protect lives and property.

The cause of the fire has not been released, and no information regarding injuries to residents was immediately available.

Officials remind residents to ensure smoke alarms are functioning properly and to have an emergency evacuation plan in place for both family members and pets.
