CORPUS CHRISTI (News Release) – The Corpus Christi City Council approved an agreement with South Texas Military Housing, LP (STMH) in a total amount not to exceed $1 million for the construction of a Chief of Naval Air Training Flag Officers (CNATRA) quarters at Naval Air Station – Corpus Christi.

The ordinance will authorize a grant from the Corpus Christi B Corporation Economic Development fund to be awarded in FY 2024 to build the CNATRA quarters and facility for the two-star admiral, who is headquartered at NAS-Corpus Christi and oversees all naval air training, including pilots, naval flight officers (NFO), and the U.S. Navy Blue Angels.

South Texas Military Housing, LP, is responsible for renovations, building, maintenance, and managing the family housing at NAS – Corpus Christi and has a long-standing partnership with the Navy.

After Hurricane Harvey destroyed the admiral's quarters in 2017, there has been no existing budget for rebuilding. The construction cost of the facility is estimated at $1.55 million. The first floor of the quarters will have space to host important meetings, notable dignitaries, visiting guests, and an entertainment venue. The second floor will be designated for living quarters. In all, CNATRA has a staff of 193 stationed military and civilian personnel.

Other participating entities pledging funds for the project include the Port of Corpus Christi, the City of Kingsville, and Kleberg County.
