Texas A&M University Kingsville

KINGSVILLE (News Release) — The online master’s degree in industrial engineering in the Frank H. Dotterweich College of Engineering at Texas A&M University-Kingsville has been ranked 10th most affordable in the nation by OnlineU. A&M-Kingsville is the only university in Texas to be listed in the top 10.

“By offering online master’s degrees in engineering and making these programs affordable, we unlock a world of possibilities,” said Dr. Heidi Taboada, dean of the College of Engineering.

“Online education at the master’s level empowers working professionals to transcend the constraints of time and place, offering a flexible and inclusive pathway to enhance their expertise,” she added. “It enables them to balance their existing commitments while acquiring new knowledge, skills and networks that propel their careers to new heights in an ever-evolving technological world.”

“The industrial engineering online program has had a long history of offering high-quality online education since fall 2009,” said Dr. Hua Li, professor and graduate coordinator for industrial engineering.

“All of the industrial engineering faculty are dedicated to supporting our online students to succeed in our program. The high quality of teaching and passionate faculty paired with the low and competitive tuition are the main reasons we attract online students from different regions in Texas and the entire nation,” Li added.

“Our college takes great pride in the deserved recognition of our M.S. in industrial engineering, which serves as strong evidence of our College of Engineering's commitment to advancing education in the South Texas region through online learning,” Taboada said. “While today we celebrate the highlight of our M.S. in industrial engineering, I am confident that in the near future, our other exceptional online M.S. programs will also garner well-deserved recognition.”

The College of Engineering at Texas A&M-Kingsville offers a total of 10 master of science programs. Five of them are fully available both face-to-face and fully online. In addition to industrial engineering, the remaining online programs are mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, computer science and natural gas engineering.

In order to qualify for OnlineU’s rankings, a school must have fully online programs available.  A fully online degree is defined as such when the majority of lectures, discussions and assignment submissions occur through a remote learning management system. OnlineU manually collects this information from college websites. Schools with programs requiring some on-campus coursework are still considered for OnlineU’s rankings if the amount of in-person work is limited to two weeks per year.
