Lifesavers Recognized in Water Rescue

Aransas Pass Police Department

ARANSAS PASS, TEXAS - (News Release) On the evening of Saturday, September 7, 2024, a visitor from San Antonio and her two children were leaving Conn Brown Harbor. The driver later reported that her GPS directed her to turn right down a boat launch. She followed those directions and found her vehicle floating into the harbor.

Seeing what had taken place, five Good Samaritans sprang into action. These men immediately took to the water, swam to the sinking SUV, and worked to gain entry through one of the windows. After much effort, the men were able to break through a sunroof and pull the two small children and their mother out, helping them get to shore where others were waiting to assist.

Four out of five of these men were identified. This evening, at the regularly scheduled meeting of the City Council, the four were formally recognized for their heroic actions. Had it not been for their selfless efforts that evening, the outcome of this event would likely have been different.

“On behalf of the City, our visitors, and the Aransas Pass Public Safety first responders, I thank each of you for your swift and deliberate actions that Saturday evening. Whereas some would be quick to video the event on a cell phone, each of you jumped into action instinctually, saving three lives. Thank you!”
