Laredo CBP Officers Apprehend Fugitive Sought for Sexual Assault on a Child

LAREDO, TEXAS (News Release) - U.S. Customs and Border Protection, Office of Field Operations, Laredo Port of Entry officers detained one male wanted for an alleged sexual crime against a child.

“Our officers remain steadfast in their commitment to protecting our communities,” said Port Director Alberto Flores, Laredo Port of Entry. “The detention of this individual highlights the dedication and the vigilance of our frontline officers in identifying and apprehending dangerous individuals before they can pose further harm.” 

The fugitive apprehension occurred on Saturday July 19, when CBP officers at the Juarez-Lincoln Bridge referred Miguel Maldonado, a 51-year-old U.S. citizen, for secondary inspection. After escorting the passenger to secondary, subsequent biometric verification through law enforcement databases confirmed that the subject had an outstanding felony warrant for aggravated sexual assault of a child, issued by the Bexar County Sheriff’s Office in San Antonio, Texas. In Texas, aggravated sexual assault of a child is classified as a first-degree felony. Maldonado was turned over to the Webb County Sheriff’s Office to await criminal proceedings.
