KPD seized drugs, a weapon and other items in two traffic stops
The Kingsville Police Department has confiscated drugs, weapons, and other items in two separate traffic stops earlier this month.
The KPD sent out two press releases Monday morning citing two separate traffic stops on Dec. 2 and Dec. 10.
The first release states that on Dec. 2, Lt. Daniel Gonzalez, KPD Street Level Operations Team (SLOT) Supervisor, conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle for allegedly speeding. Inside the vehicle were Andy Antonio Rivera, 24, and Gaston Gutierrez, 23, an adult woman and an infant. The two men reside from San Benito.
During the stop, Gonzalez smelled a strong odor of marijuana from the vehicle, which initiated a probable cause search of the vehicle, the release states.
During the search, the release states, Gonzalez discovered a loaded 9mm handgun, Psilocybin Mushrooms, two bags of marijuana, marijuana cigarettes and THC oil cartridges.
Both men in the vehicles allegedly claimed ownership of the contraband in the vehicle, according to the release.
Both men were booked into the Kleberg County Jail on separate charges.
Gutierrez was charged with unlawful carrying of a weapon, possession of a controlled substance penalty group 2 greater than 4 grams less than 400 grams, possession of a controlled substance penalty group 2 less than 1 gram, and possession of marijuana greater than 2 ounces less than 4 ounces.
Rivera was charged with possession of a controlled substance penalty group 2 less than 1 gram and possession of marijuana less than 2 ounces.
The woman and infant were released without criminal charges, the release states.
Both men have been released from the Kleberg County Jail, according to online jail records.
On Dec. 10, KPD SLOT member Gus Ruiz conducted a traffic stop near US Hwy 77 on a vehicle traveling northbound to Corpus Christi from the Rio Grande Valley.
Corpus Christi resident David Pulido Mungia, 55, was the driver of the vehicle and allegedly consented to a search.
During the search, the release states, Ruiz noticed tampering on the dashboard of the vehicle, specifically on the radio area.
Ruiz removed the clip-on trim panel around the radio and exposed “a natural void within the dashboard of the truck.”
The release states Ruiz discovered a bundle wrapped in black electrical tape inside the void, later identified as one kilogram of cocaine.
Mungia was arrested and charged for possession of a controlled substance penalty group 1 greater than or equal to 400 grams, a felony charge.
He was given a $20,000 bond, but was released from the Kleberg County Jail on Sunday, according to online jail records.
