KPD Announces Credentialing of Crime Scene Specialist Rylee Counts

Kingsville Police Department

KINGSVILLE, TEXAS (News Release) - The Kingsville Police Department recently announced that Crime Scene Specialist Rylee Counts has officially earned her credential as a Certified Crime Scene Investigator through the International Association for Identification (IAI), a leading global authority for certifying crime scene professionals.

The IAI, founded in 1915, is the oldest and largest forensic association in the world. Achieving certification requires candidates to meet rigorous standards, including a combination of advanced training, extensive field experience, and the successful completion of a comprehensive written examination. Counts joined the Kingsville Police Department in 2023 and has already completed more than 315 hours of classroom training in crime scene processing.

A native of Kerrville, Texas, she graduated from Tivy High School in 2018 and went on to earn her Bachelor of Science in Biomedical Science with an emphasis in Forensic Science from Texas A&M University–Corpus Christi in 2022. In July, Counts took the final certification examination at Fort Hood and received her passing score just this past week.

She is believed to be the first person from any Kleberg County law enforcement agency to earn this credential. Chief John Blair, Kingsville Police Department, commended Counts for her dedication: "Rylee’s achievement reflects her work ethic, attention to detail, and commitment to serving our community with professionalism. Earning this credential so early in her career speaks volumes about her passion for the field and her determination to excel."
