KPD and KISD Enhance Collaboration in Response to Threats

KINGSVILLE, TEXAS - (News Release) The Kingsville Police Department responded swiftly on Monday, September 9th, following reports of threats made against H.M. King High School. A 16-year-old juvenile was detained, and the investigation is ongoing.
Upon receiving the initial report from staff at H.M. King High School, Kingsville Police officers, in coordination with the U.S. Border Patrol, immediately conducted a safety sweep of the school in order to ensure the safety of students, faculty, staff, and any visitors on campus. The juvenile in question was detained off school grounds, and thanks to the quick response and close collaboration between law enforcement and the Kingsville Independent School District (KISD), a potential tragedy was averted.
This is the second threat prompting increased collaboration between the school district and police department in a span of just five days and Chief John Blair reaffirmed the department’s commitment to working alongside KISD to ensure that the community’s schools remain safe environments. “It’s important for our community to know that we take any threat to public safety very seriously,” Blair said, “our partnership with KISD is critical in maintaining a secure and supportive environment for our students, staff, and families. We are dedicated to providing the best and safest service possible and will continue to work diligently with our partners to protect our community.” As a result of these incidents, residents can expect an increased police presence at local schools and throughout the community. Officers from the Kingsville Police Department, the Texas Department of Public Safety, and the Kleberg County Sheriff's Office will be working together to ensure heightened security and peace of mind for students, parents, and staff. This collaborative effort underscores our commitment to maintaining a safe environment for everyone in Kingsville.
