KINGSVILLE - Kingsville ISD, Fort Stockton ISD, Edinburg CISD, Del Valle ISD, Crowley ISD, Canutillo ISD, and Pflugerville ISD, have filed a joint lawsuit against Texas Education Agency (TEA) Commissioner Mike Morath.

The lawsuit is asking to stop the release of the 2022-23 ratings which the districts claim, “are based on measures, methods and procedures that were not provided to school districts at the beginning of the 2022-2023 school year.”

TEA uses an A-F letter grade system, which is based on results from the annual Assessments of Academic Readiness for standardized testing.

On Friday, August 25, 2023, Kingsville ISD stated that “the proposed changes to the A-F system made through the year by TEA could potentially lower the accountability rating of districts across the state like KISD that have been making significant strides in student growth and achievement.”

In 2017-2018, Kingsville ISD received an F rating with a score of 57.

In 2019, they did not receive a rating due to irregularities and they never received a score in 2020 due to the COVID-19 lockdown.

For the 2021-22 school year, the district received an accountability rating of C with a score of 78.
