Kingsville - City Receives $7.2 Million Infrastructure Grant
City of Kingsville
KINGSVILLE (News Release) - The City of Kingsville announced it is one of 21 municipalities recently awarded a substantial Texas Community Block Development Grant Mitigation that will provide significant infrastructure improvements for the entire city. The grant requires just a one percent match. The City of Kingsville Engineering Department and consultants submitted a grant application detailing the need for a new lift station, 78 manhole repairs, lift station mitigation at nine points across the city and wastewater line repairs that are scheduled to begin in 2022 and continue through 2025.
“These grant funded wastewater improvements will provide much needed infrastructure upgrades to enhance services for citizens and provide minimal interruptions during severe weather events, while minimizing costs to taxpayers.” said City Engineer Rudy Mora.
The improvements follow recommendations made in wastewater reroute study completed in 2018 and will provide funding for seven city projects and city-wide manhole rehabilitation. “With these funds, the City of Kingsville is able to make necessary and costly improvements at 99% savings to taxpayer dollars,” said City Manager Mark McLaughlin, “this was a huge win by our Engineering Department and it will benefit city residents for decades to come.”
City staff are continuously seeking grant opportunities to help make improvements at a minimal cost to taxpayers. In the coming weeks, the city expects to find out if Kingsville will receive another significant grant that would bring major upgrades to drainage. Construction paid for with this grant funding is slated to begin in the Summer of 2022.
