Kingsville Brothers Arrested After Breaking into Vehicles

KINGSVILLE (News Release) - On Friday, July 29, 2022, at around 2 a.m., Kingsville Police Department was dispatch for a disturbance in the 500 block of 18th Street of a male with a black mask that had a gun. Officers reported hearing between 7-9 shots fired in the area.

Units responded and found that a male had been caught breaking into a white Mercury parked along the road in front of 500 S 18th St.

When confronted, the male ran, the vehicle owner gave chase down the 1300 block of E Huisache St. The vehicle owner returned to the residence and reported that the male he was chasing had run south between homes.

A short time later, the male, later identified as Corbin Thompson, pulled out a gun and fired multiple shots at the residence, in the 500 blk. of S. 18th St. before fleeing.

Someone in the area directed one of the responding officers to another residence in the 500 blk. of S. 18th St, which turned out to be Corbin's residence.

He would not exit, and several people were heard in the duplex.

As officers held their positions several subjects exited the residence. Some through the front door, and others through a west side patio door.

Cody Thompson, brother to Corbin exited the residence and would not comply with commands from the officers. Cody resisted and fell to the ground. He was picked up and spit in one of the officer’s faces. Cody continued to struggle with officers, causing them to slip and he fell to the ground. He was arrested and taken to jail on the noted charges below.

Cody Thompson 18YOA was charged with Harassment of Public Servant, Resist Arrest Search or Transport and Interfere w/Public Duties. Bond has not been set.

The subjects that had exited the residence were screaming that Corbin overdosed and that he was on the ground. Callout operations had begun and within a few minutes Corbin exited the residence. He was checked by EMS, taken to the hospital for medical clearance and then taken to jail.

Corbin Thompson 18YOA was charged with Deadly Conduct Discharge Firearm, Tamper/Fabricate Physical Evidence w/intent to Impair, Burglary of Vehicle. Bond has not been set.

A consent to search was signed. The room was searched, as were the community areas of the home. Officers discovered a backpack containing 28 ounces of marijuana, a scale, small baggies commonly used to package narcotics, cigarillos, and personal items, none of which had identifying information.

The marijuana was seized and brought to the Kingsville Police Department.

The gun was not located during the search.

Chief Ricardo Torres would like to remind citizens to lock their vehicles and keep their valuables from view. If at all possible don’t confront suspects. Make sure that you are a great witness by providing the best information you can on the suspect to assist officers to make an arrest.
