Vested Interest in K9s, Inc. is a national nonprofit organization dedicated to safeguarding the four-legged officers who serve alongside law enforcement across the country. Founded in 2009, the 501(c)(3) charity provides U.S.-made, National Institute of Justice (NIJ)-certified protective vests and other assistance to K9 units nationwide.
Since its inception, the organization has supplied more than 6,348 protective vests valued at approximately $6.9 million to law enforcement K9s in all 50 states. Each vest is custom tailored, weighs an average of 4 to 5 pounds, and comes with a five-year warranty, offering potentially lifesaving protection in dangerous situations.
The program is available to certified law enforcement K9s that are at least 20 months old and actively employed, including those whose existing vests have expired. Nationwide, an estimated 30,000 law enforcement K9s serve in agencies ranging from local police departments to specialized units.
Vested Interest in K9s, Inc. accepts tax-deductible donations of any amount. A single donation of $1,050 sponsors one vest, which has a retail value of $1,800. Community support from individuals and corporations makes the program possible.
