Initiative to Repair Potholes

CORPUS CHRISTI (News Release) – City Manager Peter Zanoni briefed City Council on a recent initiative to step-up the City’s approach to repairing potholes. The $1.4 million ‘Saving Our Streets’ initiative, or SOS2, is an immediate plan to repair the City’s infrastructure by partnering with private sector companies to clear a backlog of pothole repair requests across the city.
Over the next 30 to 45 days, the Public Works Department is partnering with contractors from Bay Limited and Reytec Construction Resources to address potholes on our streets. Since the initiative kicked off on Monday, January 10, approximately 20% of the backlog has been cleared, and nearly 8,000 potholes have been repaired.
“This is a major step towards progress. Your City Council is committed to resolving our city’s pothole problem,” said Mayor Paulette Guajardo. “We have heard our constituents loud and clear, and I’m optimistic about the results that SOS2 is providing for our streets.”
The SOS2 partnership is just one more initiative to repair immediate hazards on our roads today. In the Fiscal Year 2022 budget, the city is also investing over $122.3 million into programs to repair or reconstruct the City’s roadways. These programs include the Infrastructure Management Plan (IMP), the Street Preventative Maintenance Program (SPMP), the Residential Street Rebuild Program (RSRP), and the Concrete Restoration Program.
