CORPUS CHRISTI (News Release) – The Corpus Christi City Council approved $100,283 to purchase a new replacement playground unit with an attached shade structure for Bill Witt Park located in Council District 5.

The Bill Witt Master Plan highlighted the need for a playground unit since the park currently lacks one. The previous playground equipment installed in 2007 was 15 years old before being removed in March 2022 due to significant deterioration.

The new playground will be next to a splash pad and include bongos, a river walk climber, a double swerve slide, and shadow play trees. A spider climber will also be installed.

The equipment is expected to arrive within 10 to 12 weeks, and the installation will take an estimated 16 weeks after the construction contract is awarded.

As part of the Bond 2020 program, the Parks and Recreation Department plans to install two additional shade structure units at Bill Witt Park near the new playground site.

"Maintaining our parks, as well as playground equipment, is essential to the safety and well-being of the children in our community," Mayor Paulette Guajardo said."
