Health District Welcomes State Health Officials

CORPUS CHRISTI (News Release) – On January 13, the Corpus Christi – Nueces County Public Health District (CCNCPHD) hosted David Gruber, the Associate Commissioner of Regional and Local Health Operations for the Texas Department of State Health Services (DSHS), and Dr. Emilie Prot, the Medical Director for Region 11.

During this meeting, an update was presented by Dr. Fauzia Khan, Director of Public Health, on the status of the CCNCPHD following the transition to a business model in which the City of Corpus Christi became the sole administrator of the organization.

The update highlighted the accomplishments since the transition on March 1, 2022. They included:

Establishment of new and collaborative partnerships with community organizations to implement new programs.

  • Coastal Bend Wellness Foundation - Mental Health Services & Status Neutral Linkage to Care for HIV

  • Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi - Nursing Student Program & Public Health Dashboard 

  • University of Michigan - Vaccine Education, BASIC Cognitive study 

  • United Way of the Coastal Bend – Nurse-Family Partnership

Creation of new Public Health District Initiatives

  • Congenital Syphilis Intervention Program

  • Community Resource, Education, and Wellness (CREW) Team

  • Community Resource Guide and the associated referral network

  • Professional development standards with a focus on customer service excellence

  • Launching a mobile health clinic, and the pending opening of the satellite clinic in Robstown

Modernization of the Public Health District

  • Implementation of Project Management software (Microsoft Planner) 

  • Utilization of Public Health Accreditation Board Standards and Measures to guide policies and procedures

  • Focus on data-driven decision-making to ensure health equity among the citizens of Corpus Christi

  • Exploring new and diverse funding opportunities for new Public Health Interventions
