Halloween Night Shooting Leaves Kingsville Teen Dead, Another in Custody
KINGSVILLE, TEXAS - An 18-year old female teen is dead following a Halloween night shooting. According to Kingsville Police Department, officers responded to a call of a shooting around 10:41 pm on Friday, October 31, 2025 at the 300 block of West Kenedy Avenue.
When officers arrived, they found 18-year-old Katelynn Villarreal deceased from a gunshot wound to the head.
Police said the shooting took place in a shed behind the home, where a small party was being held. During the gathering, 18-year-old Larry Anthony Rodriguez allegedly reached into his backpack, pulled out a gun, and shot Villarreal once in the head before fleeing the scene.
A warrant for first-degree murder was issued for Rodriguez, who turned himself in to police on Saturday evening.
Kingsville ISD Superintendent Luz Martinez reported that Villarreal and Rodriguez were both enrolled at Kingsville ISD Care Academy. Kingsville ISD CARE Academy are for students enrolled at Kingsville High School who need to catch up on missing credits in order to graduate.
Kingsville police said the investigation remains ongoing.
