Fugitive Caught After Firing Handgun

 

KINGSVILLE POLICE DEPARTMENT


KINGSVILLE (News Release) - This morning, 9-1-1 calls were received of shots fired in the 1800 block of E. King Avenue. Callers advised that the shooter was across the street from the Police Department.

Several Kingsville Police Officers (KPD) went outside and observed the male approximately 500 feet from the Police Department walking towards an apartment complex. Officers responded on foot and by vehicle to an apartment complex in the 1700 block of E. Kenedy Avenue.

Responding officers saw the male ran into an apartment and quickly exit. KPD surrounded him and took Martin Olvera age 29 into custody. The investigation revealed that Olvera and another male were arguing. After the argument ended, it appears as if Olvera continued challenging the male and eventually fired two shots.

The other male fled the scene, was stopped nearby but denied any injury or any involvement. Olvera ran into an unlocked apartment and startled a family, as pistol fell from his shorts. He then picked up the pistol and exited the apartment, as officers began yelling commands at him.

Olvera attempted to hide the pistol and was taken into custody seconds later.

Nobody was harmed in this incident.

Martin Olvera was booked into the Kleberg County Jail on unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon and possession of controlled substance (methamphetamine), unauthorized possession of food stamps less than $200, fraudulent use/possession of identifying Information, possession of drug paraphernalia and four outstanding felony warrants.
