Four Arrested, One Sought After Attempted Theft at Lake City Property

San Patricio County Sheriff's Office

SAN PATRICIO COUNTY, TEXAS (News Release) - Quick action by an alert neighbor helped San Patricio County Sheriff's deputies interrupt an alleged theft in progress, leading to three arrests and the search for a fourth suspect, according to Sheriff Oscar Rivera.

The incident began when a Lake City resident noticed a truck and trailer being loaded with items from a nearby property. The neighbor contacted the property owner, who confirmed that no one had permission to be at the residence.

The neighbor attempted to confront the four individuals, but they fled the scene in the truck and trailer, reportedly crashing through a fence as they escaped.

The witness continued following the suspect vehicle while the property owner drove toward the area. The owner met the suspects as they entered Mathis, where San Patricio County Sheriff's deputies and Mathis Police Department officers responded and conducted a traffic stop.

According to Sheriff Rivera, one of the four suspects fled on foot immediately after the vehicle was stopped. Following an investigation at the scene, deputies arrested the remaining three suspects.

Those arrested were identified as:

  • Candace Burns, 60

  • Juanita Coronado, 53

  • Mark A. Vasquez, 33

All three were charged with:

  • Engaging in Organized Criminal Activity

  • Criminal Mischief

  • Theft of Property

The fourth suspect remains at large.

Sheriff Rivera praised the neighbor's vigilance, noting that strong community relationships continue to play a vital role in helping law enforcement prevent and solve crimes.

"Having good relationships with your neighbors is a tremendous advantage, and we certainly appreciate the support of our community," Sheriff Rivera said.

The investigation remains ongoing, and additional charges or arrests are possible.
