Despite the spotty rainfall on Saturday, the fourth annual Festival de la Loteria took over Downtown Kingsville for locals to enjoy, rain or shine.

The event was held to help raise proceeds for Keep Kingsville Beautiful, as well as to provide aid for freeze recovery efforts in Kingsville.

Last year, the event had to be held virtually due to the COVID-19 pandemic, which halted all operations and the possibility of an in-person event.

However, with precautions in place and the event being held outdoors, dozens of attendees walked the streets of Downtown Kingsville to partake in the festivities in 2021.

City of Kingsville Tourism Services Director Janine Reyes said although officials have not yet tallied all of the funds from this past weekend, it was an overall success.

Net proceeds from the event have already eclipsed more than $4,000 the total amount raised in the events past, which came as a bit of a surprise given the weather conditions.

“Loteria card sales were up $2,000 more than they had been in the past two years,” Reyes said. “The turnout was inspired because the weather was not ideal in the beginning. So, we appreciate the support from everyone who attended. It’s a testament for what the event can look like for years to come.”

Sales from the refillable drink station provided by Shorty’s, vendor sales, and downtown store owners who had their doors opened to customers are still being calculated.

On top of the festivities, Reyes said that 50 attendees of the event also received their COVID-19 vaccines from the Kleberg County Vaccine Mobile Unit.

This event was made possible thanks to co-presenting sponsors Neessen Automotive and Stef & Bec’s Boutique with help from Kingsville Rotary, Sparklight, and HEB Helping Here.

“We’ve also been blessed with many table sponsors who also contributed to the weekend’s success,” Reyes added.

South Texas Community News, Fugate Law Firm, The Silver Spur, Elizondo Medical Group, Always Faithful Dog Training, S&S Kingsville Construction, LLC, Margaritaville Drive Thru Party Barn, Country Luau, Coldwell Banker Homestead Properties, Inc., Big House Burgers, Big House Burgers & BBQ, Finder’s Keepers Village, Baffin Bay Seafood Co, Bray’s Smokehouse, The Ranch House on Baffin Bay, Paradise Guide Services, and Twisted Mesquite Lodge on Baffin Bay were all sponsors of the event.
