KINGSVILLE, TEXAS (News Release) - A major investment in recreational, educational and workforce development opportunities for Kleberg County was announced yesterday with the presentation of an $850,000 check from the U.S. House of Representatives.

Congressman Vicente Gonzalez joined city and county leaders, representatives from Texas A&M University-Kingsville for the presentation. The funding will support construction of a new pier and boat ramp on Baffin Bay.

The project is expected to provide expanded recreational opportunities while also creating a valuable resource for student research and industry training.

Officials said the new facilities will give students opportunities to gain hands-on, real-world experience in an environment connected to the region's coastal resources and industries. Such experiences can help prepare students for careers while encouraging graduates and skilled workers to remain in South Texas.

The project also represents an investment in the long-term development of the Baffin Bay and Kleberg County area, providing new infrastructure for residents, students, researchers and industry.

Kleberg County Judge Rudy Madrid was recognized for helping identify the need for improvements and working to bring additional resources to the county.

Local officials expressed their appreciation to Congressman Gonzalez and county leadership for supporting the project and helping secure funding for the new Baffin Bay facilities.

The $850,000 investment is expected to enhance access to Baffin Bay while strengthening the area's recreational, educational and workforce development opportunities.
