Family of Three Injured After Car Strikes Cow on US 77 Near Odem

ODEM, TEXAS (News Release) - A family of three was injured late Tuesday night after their vehicle struck a cow on U.S. Highway 77 north of Odem, according to the San Patricio County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies were dispatched to the single-vehicle crash after the small car, traveling southbound on U.S. 77, struck a cow that was in the roadway. The collision caused the vehicle to leave the roadway and roll into the median, according to information released by authorities.
A 9-year-old girl was ejected from the vehicle and was transported by HALO-Flight to an area hospital for treatment. Her grandparents, who were also in the vehicle, were transported by ground ambulance.
The Texas Department of Public Safety is investigating the circumstances surrounding the crash, including how the cow came to be on the highway.
Despite the severity of the crash, all three occupants survived.
The San Patricio County Sheriff's Office also noted that highway traffic was particularly busy during the holiday weekend but said motorists were generally driving safely.
