Ex South Texas DPS Officer Arrested

KLEBERG COUNTY - A Department of Public Safety Highway Patrol sergeant was arrested on Tuesday by the Texas Rangers on charges of indecency with a child.

Andrew Smith, 33 resigned early Tuesday before being arrested, DPS officials said. 

Charges from an investigation was initiated after a juvenile made a report on Jan. 8 regarding the alleged assault. 

Smith was booked into the Kleberg County Jail on the charge of Indecency with a Child – Sexual Contact, a second-degree felony.
