ERCOT has Issued Second Conservation Appeal

Nueces Electric Cooperative

ROBSTOWN, TEXAS (News Release) – In the face of an ongoing winter storm gripping the entire region, ERCOT has issued a second conservation appeal and is urging residents to voluntarily reduce electricity consumption, if safe, for Tuesday, January 17, from 6 am - 9 am.

Nueces Electri Cooperative (NEC) will closely monitor the situation and keep the public informed. It is important to note that the conservation appeal for tomorrow does not signify an emergency; rather, it is a proactive measure to address potential challenges arising from freezing temperatures and increased morning demand.

NEC asks members to adopt these practical energy saving tips to help in the conservation efforts:

  • Set your thermostat as low as you can comfortably do so (ideally at 68 degrees or under).

  • Avoid using major appliances if possible (save the dishes and laundry for other times).

  • Avoid cooking on the stove or oven (opt for the microwave or toaster oven instead).

  • Bundle up and utilize clothing and blankets for additional warmth.

  • Turn off unused lights and unplug any unused small appliances and electronic devices.

  • Minimize hot water usage by avoiding using a washing machine and a dishwasher.

NEC also recommends that members keep their cellphone, laptop, and other devices fully charged during extreme weather events and be prepared with safety kits that include spare flashlights, batteries, candles, and a battery-powered cellphone charging device.
