CORPUS CHRISTI (News Release) – The City Council authorized a professional services contract with American Electric Power, Texas (AEP) for $100,000 for the electrical power study of the City’s future seawater desalination plant at Inner Harbor. The study also will include connecting to the Electric Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT) electric transmission grid. Funding for this study is available from the State Water Implementation Fund Texas Loan-2020.

The AEP contract will include the scope and cost estimate for regulatory work and the infrastructure design necessary for the electric service of the City’s seawater desalination plant.

This advancement brings the City of Corpus Christi one step closer to achieving a drought-proof water source for the region.

The preliminary work is scheduled to start in June 2022 and should be complete by December 2022.
