Elexis Morado signs to play basketball at TLU
After a high school basketball career that included a long list of accomplishments, Santa Gertrudis Academy senior Elexis Morado is ready to make the leap to the next level.
On Friday afternoon, Morado took pen to paper to signify her commitment to play basketball at Texas Lutheran University next year, a dream she didn’t realize she has when she was younger.
She started playing basketball at the Boys and Girls Club when she was a fourth grader, but a love for the game had yet to develop for the soon-to-be Lady Lion standout.
However, Morado said as she got older, she began to have conversations with her mother about where her skills could take her, and her dream was set.

“When I was younger, basketball was never really my thing; it wasn't what I expected for my future to be,” Morado said. “In middle school, I had these plans that I wanted to play college and I wanted to play for these big schools, and you know it kind of hindered throughout high school.
“I knew that I had a love for basketball, but I never knew necessarily how far I wanted to take it and seeing other people do what I always dreamed of kind of motivated me and allowed me to work harder in and out of practice. So, for this to happen and my dreams to come true. This is honestly one of the best feelings I've ever had.”
In her career, Morado has been named District 31-3A Newcomer of the Year in 2018, named to the All-District First-Team in 2019 and 2020, and was named Co-district MVP of District 30-3A in 2021.
In 2021 she was placed on the Texas Association of Basketball Coaches all-region team, All-South Texas first-team, was selected to play in the TABC All-Star game on May 13, and the Coastal Bend Coaches Association All-Star game on May 15.
In her career, she surpassed 1,000 career points and 500 career assists, and finished her senior year averaging 14 points, 7 rebounds, 5 assists and 3 steals per game.
“I’d like to thank my friends, my teammates and my family and TLU for giving me this opportunity,” Morado said. “I’d also like to thank God for allowing me to have the capability to play the game that I love.”
