DMC Foundation Launching new Estate Planning Service

CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS (News Release) - Did you know that 76 percent of Americans do not have an estate plan according to a 2025 Caring.com study? Creating a will helps protect loved ones, provides peace of mind and offers those planning their estate an opportunity to support causes that matter most to them. And if you “Google” to see what the average cost is to seek advice and services to create a will, the expense can range anywhere between $1,000 to $5,000.

The Del Mar College Foundation has a solution.

As part of Make-A-Will Month, the DMC Foundation is launching a new and free estate planning service in partnership with FreeWill, a legally valid online tool that provides individuals an easy way to create a will  in about 20 minutes. The service is available at partner.freewill.com/dmcfoundation, allowing individuals to generate a legally valid estate plan at no cost that protects their family and records their wishes.

Individuals who choose to include Del Mar College in their estate plans will be recognized as members of the DMC Foundation’s new Legacy Del Mar Society, honoring their commitment to creating educational opportunities for future students.

Since 1983, the DMC Foundation’s mission has focused on providing scholarships, supporting educational programs and removing barriers for community members to reach their unrealized potential. 

The “no cost” benefit of using FreeWill is possible due to support from hundreds of nonprofit partners. Users’ wills are valid in all 50 states and the District of Columbia, and the site utilizes guidance from expert attorneys. Individuals using the online tool are assured their information is safe. The site encrypts all data, never stores sensitive information such as Social Security numbers and meets strict safety standards set forth by the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants.

The DMC Foundation selected to partner with FreeWill to make the process simpler for supporters to help sustain Del Mar College’s educational opportunities among community members for years to come.
