Council Approves Purchase of Virtual Reality Simulator
City of Corpus Christi
CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS (News Release) - Corpus Christi City Council approved purchasing and installing a new virtual reality (VR) training simulator for the Corpus Christi Police Department’s Training Academy. The system, purchased from V-Armed Inc., will cost $383,000 and be funded through the FY 2025 Crime Control and Prevention District Fund.
The VR simulator will provide officers and cadets with immersive, realistic training scenarios to improve decision-making, judgment, and de-escalation techniques in high-stress situations. Training modules include armed confrontations, mental health crises, and active shooter incidents-all in a safe and controlled environment. The system also features after-action review technology, enabling instructors to provide immediate feedback and improve officer performance.
“This virtual reality training system represents our city’s commitment to equipping officers with innovative tools to meet the challenges of modern policing,” Mayor Paulette Guajardo said. It is an investment in both officer safety and community trust, and I am proud to see Corpus Christi leading in this effort.”
“The VR training system is a significant investment in our officers and community, “Police Chief Mike Markle said. “By allowing our officers to practice in realistic scenarios, we strengthen their confidence, decision-making, and situational awareness, which translates to a safer outcome in the field.”
The virtual reality training simulator will be utilized by all CCPD police personnel (officers and cadets) and made available to external law enforcement agencies.
