CORPUS CHRISTI (News Release) – The Corpus Christi City Council approved the first of a two-reading ordinance to sell the former Lamar Elementary School Site to the nonprofit housing developer TG 110, Inc.

TG 110 proposes to pursue housing tax credits from the Texas Department of Housing and Community Affairs to construct affordable housing units for seniors. The developer also plans to host a design workshop for neighborhood residents in early January 2024. Details for the workshop will be publicized if the City Council provides final approval for the project during the second reading of the ordinance at the meeting on December 12.

The 3.47-acre site for the proposed TG 110 development represents approximately half of the vacant land the Ed Rachal Foundation gifted to the City in the Spring of 2023. The City released a Request for Letters of Interest (RFI) in August 2023 seeking proposals from experienced housing developers. The City is meeting with the remaining housing developers who submitted proposals to discuss opportunities for developing the remaining vacant lots included in the RFI.

The City continues to focus on developing a strategic approach to expedite infill housing construction that creates synergistic investments, benefits current neighborhood residents, addresses local housing affordability needs, and stabilizes this established neighborhood.
