Corpus Christi - (News Release) The City of Corpus Christi is proud to join a new peer-learning cohort led by the National League of Cities (NLC) to support the emergence of re-engagement efforts to city leaders and their key partners across the Southeast and Southwest U.S. Corpus Christi joins eight other cities from across the nation to engage in monthly peer-to-peer virtual learning opportunities and receive tailored technical assistance from NLC's staff and national content experts to help advance the city's efforts in reengaging opportunity youth.

The Reengaging Opportunity Youth in Education & Employment proposal takes to scale many of our current initiatives, and we welcome the opportunity to help guide out-of-school and out-of-work young adults back onto pathways that lead to academic achievement, professional skill development, credentials, and employment," said Mayor Paulette Guajardo.

Together with Education to Employment Partners, Workforce Solutions of the Coastal Bend, and Corpus Christi ISD, as well as other local school districts and youth services stakeholders, the City of Corpus Christi aims to develop a city-wide collaborative and strategic plan focused on the needs of youth between the ages of 16 and 24. Using models from other cities across the nation, the collaboration will compile data to provide a comprehensive view of youth in the city and expand efforts to focus on reengaging opportunity youth into meaningful educational and career pathways.

The Reengaging Opportunity Youth initiative of the National League of Cities Institute for Youth Education and Families (YEF Institute) addresses the urgent need to develop community-wide approaches to reengage opportunity youth in education, employment, and beyond. This initiative provides expert assistance to support cities and partners to create new or expanded infrastructure in the form of re-engagement centers or programs. This cohort program runs from February 2022 through August 2023 and is supported by the Annie E. Casey Foundation.
