CORPUS CHRISTI (News Release) - The first phase of construction for the Six Points Intersection and Traffic Signal Improvements project is scheduled to begin on Tuesday, April 6.

The project scope includes the full reconstruction of the Six Points Intersection, the conversion of 10th Street to one-way (southbound), from Ayers Street to Staples Street, a full reconstruction of Palmero Street, from Staples Street to Alameda Street, and conversion of the former RTA transfer station into a plaza area with parking spaces. The project also includes curb and gutter, driveway, pavement markings, signage, traffic signalization, street lighting, ADA and pedestrian improvements. Utility improvements, including gas, storm water drainage, water, and wastewater are also included in the project.

Drivers and pedestrians should expect the following traffic changes beginning Tuesday, April 6, weather permitting, as part of Phase 1 construction:

  • Ayers Street, between the Six Points Intersection and 10th Street will be closed to thru traffic.

  • Ayers Street, between Brownlee Boulevard and 10th Street, will be closed to thru traffic. Local access is provided to businesses.

  • The “Right Only” travel lane will be closed along southbound Staples Street between Alameda Street and the Six Points Intersection.

  • 10th Street, between Ayers Street and Staples Street will be closed to thru traffic. Local access is provided to businesses.

  • Motorists traveling in the right lane, along westbound Ayers Street, must turn right at the Six Points Intersection.

  • Sidewalks and crosswalks at the immediate intersection of Ayers Street and 10th Street will be closed.

Safety is the City’s top priority. Motorists are reminded to be cautious of the work zone, obey work zone signs, and seek alternate routes to avoid delays.
