Cole Park Pier to be Renovated
Press Release
CORPUS CHRISTI – At today’s City Council meeting, Corpus Christi Mayor Joe McComb and the City Council approved a construction contract to JM Davidson Ltd. for $7.5 million for the construction of a new Cole Park Pier. Funding for the pier project comes from the Type B Sales Tax Fund, the Community Enrichment Fund, and the City’s General Fund.
Cole Park Pier was constructed in 1971 and is a popular destination for residents and tourists who enjoy fishing, sightseeing, and the beautiful Corpus Christi bay. The pier has been closed since April 2018 after structural deficiencies were discovered.
The Parks & Recreation Department and Engineering Services Department along with the design firm Jacobs Engineering have spent the last six months working together to design a new pier and plaza with features identified through extensive community feedback.
The contract with JM Davidson of Aransas Pass includes the demolition and construction of the pier. The demolition of the pier will begin in January 2021 and construction is expected to be complete by August 2021.
