Coastal Bend Athletes Shine at THSWPA State Powerlifting Meet

EDINBURG, TEXAS (News Release) - Athletes from Bishop High School, Santa Gertrudis Academy, and H.M. King Early College High School delivered standout performances at the 2026 THSWPA State Girls Powerlifting Championship, earning top finishes and setting records on the state stage.
At Bishop High School, Olivia Cardenas made headlines in the 3A Division I meet by breaking a state record in the 242+ weight class with a massive 600-pound squat, surpassing the previous record of 595. Cardenas also secured a second-place finish in her division.
Teammate Mireya Leyva captured a state championship title in the 242-pound weight class, adding to Bishop’s strong showing at the meet.
Santa Gertrudis Academy athletes also turned in an impressive performance. Eden Cavazos earned second place in the 114-pound weight class with an outstanding total of 855 pounds, highlighted by a personal-best 210-pound bench press.
Kali Zuniga and Sydnie Garza contributed strong lifts for the team, helping Santa Gertrudis secure a fourth-place overall finish in the state team standings.

At H.M. King Early College High School, athletes capped off their season with determined performances on the state platform. Keilaya White placed sixth in the 132-pound weight class, while Jaelynn Cortez also earned sixth place in the 148-pound division. Gabriella Adrian led the team with a third-place finish in the 242+ weight class.
Across all three schools, Coastal Bend athletes demonstrated strength, discipline, and competitive excellence at one of the state’s top high school powerlifting events.
