City Proclaims Month of February as Black History Month
CORPUS CHRISTI (News Release) –In recognition of Black History Month, City Council declared the month of February as Black History Month in Corpus Christi.
“Black History Month recognizes and celebrates the rich cultural heritage of African Americans in our nation’s history,” said Mayor Paulette M. Guajardo. “It is an honor to declare the month of February as Black History Month in Corpus Christi, and we encourage everyone’s participation in this year’s celebrations.”

“Here at the City of Corpus Christi, we value cultural diversity. Black History Month is critically important to our cultural awareness of the value that everyone brings to the workplace,” City Manager Peter Zanoni said. “I want to encourage everyone to join me in celebrating Black History Month.”
Since 1976, February has been designated as Black History Month as it coincides with the birthdates of former President Abraham Lincoln and social reformer Frederick Douglass. Both men played a significant role in helping to end slavery.
