TAFT, TEXAS (News Release) - Due to human error, an accidental release of sensitive information occurred within the Taft City Council agenda packet. This included driver's license numbers for 34 individuals and Social Security numbers for seven individuals. Upon discovery of the issue, the City took immediate steps to remove the document from public access and implement corrective measures.
The City is taking the following actions to address this matter:
1. Notification of Affected Individuals – The City will directly notify all individuals whose information was exposed, providing them with details on the incident and guidance on monitoring their personal information.
2. Immediate Removal of the Document – The unredacted document has been removed from all public platforms, and steps have been taken to ensure it is not accessible.
3. Enhanced Review Procedures – The City will implement additional review procedures for all public records releases to prevent similar incidents in the future.
4. Employee Training – Staff responsible for handling sensitive information will undergo additional training on data security and proper redaction processes.
5. Credit Monitoring Services – In accordance with best practices and legal obligations, the City will provide credit monitoring services to the seven individuals whose Social Security numbers were released. Affected individuals will receive further details on how to access these services.
