City Graffiti Cleanup Effort Wipes Out More Than 1,600 Tags

CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS (News Release) - In a city-wide effort to stay ahead of vandalism, the City’s Solid Waste Services Graffiti Cleanup Crew successfully tackled 1,667 locations in 2025, sometimes before the paint was even dry. Statistics show that 90 percent of their work was completed proactively by the Graffiti Cleanup Crew, erasing graffiti before a single public report was filed.
The team has collaborated closely with the Corpus Christi Police Department’s Property Crimes Division for over 15 years, refining its ability to respond quickly and effectively.
Operating two specialized high-pressure water trucks, the crew targets everything from bus stops and street signs to fences, buildings on major streets, and some local parks.
Of the 1,667 sites cleaned last year, 1,495 were identified and scrubbed by the team during proactive patrols before residents could submit a report to CCPD, the 3-1-1 Call Center, or online.
"Graffiti isn't just paint on a wall,” said Guillermo Olvera, Code Compliance Superintendent with Solid Waste Services. “Tagging diminishes neighborhood value and contributes to a sense of urban decay. Our goal is to stay ahead of the curve. By responding swiftly, we preserve our city's beauty and safety, often before the community even notices a problem."
Although the team is proactive, residents are still encouraged to be part of the solution by reporting graffiti in their neighborhood immediately.
