City to Receive $4.75 Million For Storm Water System Improvements
City of Corpus Christi
CORPUS CHRISTI (News Release) – Today, the City of Corpus Christi was awarded $4.75 million in financial assistance from the Texas Water Development Board (TWDB) to improve the City’s storm water system. The assistance will be funded through the Clean Water State Revolving Fund (CWSRF).
Oso Creek serves as the natural storm water conveyance for the region and extends 24 miles through the City’s limits and extraterritorial jurisdiction. The creek has been subjected to severe floods to include four major storm events since September 2010. Each event led to significant flood damage in several neighborhoods in the city to include the Lakes, Kings Crossing, Sun Valley Estates, Oso Parkway, and Cedar Ridge.
In response, City staff put in a request for assistance to the TWDB. The City will use the CWSRF funds to plan and design a project to upgrade a 12-mile section of the Oso Creek Channel and several miles of earthen channels that take storm water to Oso Creek. The project is anticipated to improve the capacity of the City’s storm water system and reduce storm water pollution.
